Telephone or EmailA phone call or email is the quickest way to ask a question or address concerns. I like to respond to phone calls as soon as possible, but because of my schedule, I often can't respond until the end of the day when my classroom is more private. Emails are a little easier to work in throughout the day, so if you email me, I am often able to respond to you sooner.

Parent Meetings
I look forward to meeting you at our Open House in September and parent conferences in November. However, if your child is struggling academically or socially, please do not wait for parent conferences. I will gladly set up a time to meet with you so we can get your child in a happy place as soon as possible.

Google Classroom Toolkit for ParentsPermission to share courtesy of Google for Education YouTube, Aug. 11, 2020
This Introduction to the Tech Toolkit for Families and Guardians video series is created by Google for Education to supports families as we venture into blended learning. "Tech Toolkit for Families and Guardians: Google Classroom" explains the features of Google Classroom, including how to opt in for a weekly summary of your child's work.
At the beginning of the year I will send you an invitation. You will receive an email providing you with the option to receive Google Classroom Summary Reports via email. You can opt out or choose how frequently you want to receive them. Not all work is assigned in Google Classroom, which means the summary report serves as a window into your child’s work habits and provides a sampling of your child’s work. Please use the parent portal for a comprehensive view of your child's progress. |
Remind Parent OptionsRemind.com is an app for communicating through text messages, or if you prefer, you can take the option to receive the text message via email. The app allows teachers to text all sixth-grade parents at one time. Your contact information is confidential, so other members cannot view your personal contact information. The texts are for busy parents. They are purposeful, a simple reminder of field trips, fundraiser deadlines, class celebrations, book orders, progress reports signatures, project deadlines, etc. Since the app limits the number of characters in one text message, they are direct and to the point. If you are new to remind, go to the "Remind: Join a Class" website for more details. Please look for our class code in the beginning-of-the-year class newsletter.

Strategies for Supporting Homework
As students get older and develop more independence, it is more challenging to monitor daily homework. Middle school students feel more independent when asked, ‘‘What do you have to do and when are you going to do it?’’
